"If the [EU] Commission elects to designate Twitter a VLOP [Very Large Online Platform] under the DSA [Digital Services Act] the business will face an accelerated compliance timetable with oversight kicking in in February next year — rather than in February 2024 — and with a tougher set of requirements to assess and mitigate risks on its platform.
All that compliance requirement — with far fewer staff… is… just obviously going to be a total car crash 😬
Fines under the DSA scale up to 6% of global annual turnover. While, under the GDPR [General Data Protection Regulation] the regime already allows for fines up to 4% for major breaches. So if Twitter isn’t bankrupt yet is may just be a matter of time before its owner’s recklessness toward legal risk finishes the job.
COMMENT: This question is challenging me to wade in very deep waters! The 2nd article analyzes the possible financial impact of all of the personnel cuts & losses, advertising income losses, and possible subscription income. It also speculates about how much Musk is worth and whether he'll cover Twitter's losses himself.
Musk on Monday publicly accused Apple of threatening to remove Twitter from the App Store. But just days later, he tweeted that he met with CEO Tim Cook and said Cook did not intend to remove the app.
“Tim was clear that Apple never considered doing so,” he wrote.
Anneinak I was just curious how you got that news so early. Usually those kinds of edge on the news comes from Twitter or breaking news alerts / emails, so interesting to see you got that link likely from email.
Regarding your last two paragraphs, I believe in the credibility of that report, but I don't believe in Tim's words that "Apple never considered doing so." Tim has presided over instances where controversial App Store removals took place as well as has a history of being steadfast in his views (going against the FBI in the San Bernardino drama on iPhone privacy) and tweeting mostly liberal toned tweets during political turmoil. Elon seems to be predominantly right leaning for the time being. Tim must be aware of this, given his interest in the political climate, timely activity on Twitter, and engaged leadership style.
Gosh, I didn't realize that it wasn't widely known that Musk & Apple had kissed and made up.
I just have a google alert set up (Twitter+banruptcy+Musk) . (I set one or 2 up for each question.) It turns up about a dozen hits a day. I found that info in 2 articles, so assumed it was pretty ubiquitous, and didn't quote it.
PR is PR, not necessary the whole truth, or even a partial truth, but just a plausible and acceptable story to explain something.
What is this "assertion," given that you commented twice and I also commented two points? In your second sentence above ("It's in the universe of possibilities."), what is the "it?"
The assertion could be true given a number N spaces. What is means to you is that Musk could go in a different direction that is unexpected. What volatility factor do you assign to the game state? Is it a subset of the world volatility game state?
@GL2814 I'm not entirely sure I understand what was meant by "game state" and what "it" is referring to in your last sentence: "Is it a subset of the world volatility game state?"

@probahilliby ,
This is not where I found the info re Musk & Apple-- (I read it in 2 places)--but it repeats what I read:

@probahilliby
Explain the Youtube business model to me then maybe I can make a guess.
I did not make the assertion. It's in the universe of possibilities.
