As President Biden's loan forgiveness plan faces major headwinds in the courts, there is speculation that there may be a new extension of the federal student loan repayment pause, scheduled to end on 31 December 2022, which has been in effect since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (US Dept. of Education, CBS News, CNBC).
