China has begun to loosen some COVID-19 restrictions in the wake of the largest series of protests in decades around the country, even as new daily case records are being made (Guardian, CNN). The question will be suspended on 8 February 2023 and the outcome determined using Johns Hopkins University data as reported by Our World in Data (OWiD) for 9 December 2022 through and including 8 February 2023 (OWiD, parameters are set in the link). To download data, click the "DOWNLOAD" tab under the chart for options. Data will be accessed for resolution at approximately 5:00PM ET on 10 February 2023 or when data including 8 February 2023 are first available, whichever comes later.
