Solar energy generation is seen as key for the general move away from fossil fuels (Yale Environment 360, EIA). The question will be suspended on 28 February 2025 and the outcome determined using installed capacity data (for the year, not cumulative) as reported by the IEA in its 2025 Snapshot of Global PV Markets, expected in early spring of 2025 (IEA PV Power Systems Programme - Snapshot Reports). In 2023, 407.3 GW of PV electrical capacity was installed around the world (IEA - Snapshot of Global PV Markets 2024, see "1.1 Evolution of Annual Installations" and Figure 1, ShopSolar - Gigawatt Definition). If the IEA reports a minimal and a maximal annual volume for China or other places as it did in its 2024 snapshot, the minimal figure will be used for resolution.
