On 23 May 2024, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) made a rule change that would enable for an Ethereum (aka Ether) exchange-traded fund (ETF), which led to a jump in the cryptocurrency's value (CNBC, Crypto.news). The question will be suspended on 29 September 2024 and the outcome determined using Coinbase price data as reported by the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) database (FRED). On 26 May 2024, the price of one Ethereum was $3,821.14.
