Foxes ask:
Will the interim government of Bangladesh announce a date or dates for new nationwide elections or a constitutional referendum before 25 January 2025?
Closing Jan 25, 2025 08:01AM UTC
The Bangladeshi interim government reportedly seeks fundamental changes to the country's political system in the wake of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ouster in August 2025, though the path to be taken is yet to be determined (PBS, Dhaka Tribune, Straits Times, Voice of America, France 24). Elections for members of a national government in a transitional or permanent parliamentary body or a constituent assembly tasked with drafting and/or approving a new constitution will count, as will a referendum for constitutional changes on which Bangladeshi citizens nationwide will vote (Jago News 24). An actual date or dates for the elections or referendum must be announced, as opposed to broader chronological phrasing (e.g., "by 2026," "in the summer of 2026," "August 2026").
