How much carbon dioxide (CO2) will the US emit in 2025 as compared to 2024, according to Carbon Monitor?
Closing Jan 01, 2026 08:01AM UTC
The question will be suspended on 31 December 2025 and the outcome determined using data as reported by Carbon Monitor once data for all of 2025 are first available (Carbon Monitor). Once on the webpage, click "EXPAND FILTERS" on the left side of the screen, then 1) confirm that "FILTER BY SECTOR" is set to "All sectors," 2) set "SET A DATE RANGE" to "from January 1st to December 31st," and 3) set "COMPARE YEARS" to "2025 VS 2024." Data are shown by hovering your cursor over the appropriate column, which in this case is "USA" for the US. Other site data are immaterial. As of the launch of this question, US CO2 emissions fell 2.1% for "All sectors" for "Jan 1st > Dec 31st, 2023" as compared to "Jan 1st > Dec 31st, 2022." Please note the header may show "December 30th" instead of "December 31st," but you may disregard that discrepancy. The date in the field that pops up when you hover your cursor over the appropriate column controls.
