The share of primary energy consumption, which includes motor vehicle fuels, in the US that comes from renewable energy has steadily climbed in the 21st Century per EIA data, from 3.72% in 2001 to 9.16% in 2024 (Governing, Renewable Energy Magazine). The question will be suspended on 31 December 2025 and the outcome determined using data provided by the EIA for "Total" under "Renewable Energy" (EIA, click "DOWNLOAD" for additional options). Under "TABLE 1.3 PRIMARY ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY SOURCE," select "Annual" and divide the 2025 figure for "Total" under "Renewable Energy" by the 2025 figure for "Total" at the bottom of the table. As of the launch of this question, the EIA reported that the "Renewable Energy" total for 2024 was 8.627785 quadrillion Btu, and the "Total" energy consumption was 94.200644, which results in a quotient of 9.15894%.
